Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Soehnle Culina Plus Analog Food ScaleCustomer Review: Glad I own one. Summary: 4 Stars
I've had this scale a few years and LOVE that it doesn't take up counter space and never ever requires batteries.
The biggest drawbacks are that small amounts can be hard to see, and to be super-accurate you need to watch the dial from a consistent angle.
That said, it saves tons of time. I tested it for accuracy weighing water (2 c.=1 1b.) and it's fine. I still use measuring spoons where i need precision with small amounts.
Personally, I totally would return to the seller any scale that failed the water test.
Over the years, I actually made a list of food weights taped to the inside of my cupboard that saves me time (i.e. 6 ounces of rice is about a cup).
I can weigh multiple recipe ingredients in any old thing from saucepans to paper plates, and set tare, of course. Am having fun getting into international recipes measured in grams.
It's very no-frills. Digital are more fashionable. On the other hand, this won't shut off on you if you have to leave the kitchen. I use it pretty much daily.
Description of Soehnle Culina Plus Analog Food ScaleFeatures convenient batter bowl for easy pouring. Measures in grams and oz. Manually adjust to zero for additive weighing function.. This German company has been making scales since 1868 and has a great deal of expertise behind the production of each one. The Culina Plus scale is one of the company?s bestselling kitchen scales, most likely, for its simplicity. This analog scale gives weight readings manually without requiring batteries or plugs to operate. The scale measures in both imperial (pounds/ounces) and metric (grams/kilograms) systems of measurement, making it easier to follow recipes from either American or European cookbooks without having to figure out weight conversions. The Culina Plus measures up to 11 pounds or 5 kilograms of either wet or dry ingredients in its large 2-1/2-liter bowl. In addition to weighing, the bowl is ideal for mixing as it has a nonslip rubber base and a convenient handle and pouring spout for transferring ingredients. The easy-to-clean plastic bowl is dishwasher safe and inverts over the scale for more compact storage when the scale is not in use. This kitchen scale is guaranteed by Soehnle for up to 3 years from the date of purchase. --Cristina Vaamonde
