Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Soehnle 4-Pound Attache Scale

Customer Review: So nice I own 2
Summary: 5 Stars

Over the years I've done dozens of diets and had at least a half a dozen scales to weigh the food. Of all the ones I've owned this one is my absolute favorite, so much so that I own 2 of them and use both daily. The scale is extremely accurate and works in increments as small as 1 gram and 1/20th of an ounce. I've found it to be reliable at pretty much all weights except those under 5 grams and 1/10th of an ounce - sometimes its a little off then. However there are very few things you need to weigh at that level so its never posed a problem for me.

I especially like how it weighs things in grams and ounces because that makes European recipes easier, as well as weighing out things like Ice Cream which always seems to have its portion sizes in grams. It also gives you at least 2 minutes to weigh multiple items without turning itself off. I suspect it starts recounting it every time you tare because I've never actually had it turn itself off while I was in the middle of something. But it does shut off if left alone and not used for a few minutes. A nice feature that saves on batteries, although I've gone well over 6 months with my first scale on a 9volt battery and haven't needed to replace it. I like that it uses a very common battery and not something difficult to locate, or impossible to replace.

Is it perfect? Well no, there are a few tiny design flaws with it. If its not relatively level it can be a bit cranky about using the tare feature, you have to press it a couple of times to get it to take. The gram/ounce switch is on the back and while it is easy enough to operate you have to flip the scale over to do it. It however isn't very likely to switch from one to the other accidentally, which I like. As I mentioned before its less then perfectly accurate at weights under 1/10th of an ounce or about 5 grams, but thats rarely an issue for me. Its also expensive, there's no way around it, although it was on a Friday Sale once which was nice.

All in all its a solidly built, easy to use scale thats reliable, accurate and a very helpful for people who find calculating grams to ounces very tedious (such as most dieters).

Description of Soehnle 4-Pound Attache Scale

The Swiss have long been known for their keen ability to measure time precisely. The same precision is evident in this sleek, compact scale by the Swiss company Soehnle: using a digital readout, it accurately weighs recipe ingredients or portions for diet or special-nutrition plans. Flip a switch to toggle from pounds and ounces to kilograms and grams. The "add and weigh" feature means you can set a bowl on the platform, add new ingredients, reset to return the scale to zero, and weigh again without removing the bowl. (To reset, touch anywhere on the oversized touch pad on the front panel.) A digital dial on the front is easy to read, and the battery-operated scale is smart enough to shut itself off after it sits idle for two minutes. All Soehnle scales come with a 10-year warranty. --Linda Dahlstrom
